Directory transparency

Supplier directory data policy

This policy explains exactly what a MaterialTotals supplier profile means and what it does not mean.

What counts as a supplier location

A listing represents a source-backed physical plant, quarry, pit, yard, warehouse, distributor branch, retailer, manufacturer branch, fabricator, terminal, compost facility, precast plant or landscape supply yard that is materially related to construction-material purchasing. Parent-company names without a usable physical location are not location profiles.

Categories and branches

Categories come from explicit source tags, products, facility descriptions or controlled material terms. A branch may belong to several categories but receives one deterministic primary category. Generic stores are not assigned to every category. Separate physical branches remain separate even when they share a brand, phone number or website.

Duplicate merging

Records merge only when normalized name, address or postal code and tightly matching coordinates support the same physical location. Shared company names or domains alone never collapse branches. Conflicting facts retain field-level provenance and the higher-confidence, more specific source value.

What “source checked” means

The date records when the named public source record was retrieved or directly checked. It does not mean MaterialTotals telephoned the business, verified inventory, tested service quality or confirmed that every field remains current. A site rebuild does not advance this date.

Pickup, delivery and customer type

These fields remain “not established by the source” unless an official or public source supports the claim. Unknown is different from unavailable. Published delivery radii, minimum orders, packaging and ordering units are shown only when supported.

Stale and corrected information

Sources have review schedules and stale thresholds. Failed imports preserve the previous validated snapshot and appear in the refresh log. Businesses and visitors can submit factual corrections with supporting evidence. Claimed information is labeled and does not erase public-source provenance.

No ranking or endorsement

Inclusion is not a review, recommendation, verification shield, ranking or endorsement. Organic ordering is deterministic and sponsorship is visibly separated from organic results.
